social.msdn.microsoft.com

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on my Laptop for use with IIS 7.0; Everything was working fine untillI opened the Report ServerSite with WVD 2008, it asked me to Modify the web.config for debugging. After doing that the Report Server Site started showingan error page saying there wasa rsInternal error.I tried fixing the Web.config by hand but it dident work, soI tried completly reinstalling the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. It reinstalled perfectly excluding the Report Server. When it came time to install the Report Server;I got the error message. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Setting reporting service and share point exclusion path. Need Setup Help: &&"The ReportServerVirtualDirectory Element Is Missing&&" social.msdn.microsoft.com

I am getting setup problems with Reporting Services 2005. When I try to connect through SQL Server Management Studio, the browser in the connect dialog can see the Reporting Services 2005 instance, but when I try to connect, I get an error dialog with the message, "The Report Services instance could not be found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)" I manually setup ReportServer and ReportManageer virtual directories in IIS to point to the corresponding directories within the Reporting Services installation. Was I supposed to do this manually? Was the installer supposed to set this up? Anyway, when I browse to http://localhost/ReportServer/ I get: * The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError) o Access to the path 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.4Reporting ServicesReportServerRSReportServer.config' is denied. When I browse to http://localhost/ReportManager/ I get: An error occurred while parsing the configuration file. The ReportServerVirtualDirectory element is missing. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong and what I can do to fix?

SetItemDataSources Keeps Telling Me The Data Source Cannot Be Found, But It's There... What's The Tr... social.msdn.microsoft.com

I have a custom folder layout for reporting services on our test environment so each tester can test the reports against the data in their own instances. The developers have reports in a different layout that's more in line with what will be in production. So I figured some simple RS scripting would handle things. It was easy to create the folder structure, easy to create the shared data sources in each testers reports folders, and easy to deploy the report from the developers folder (source) to the testers report folders. However, when I try to use SetItemDataSources to change the data source in the newly duplicated reports, I keep getting an error telling me that the data source cannot be found. Here's the relevant code fragment: 'Set report DataSource references Dim DataSources(0) As DataSource DataSources(0) = New DataSource ' update with new data source info DataSources(0).Name = strDSName Dim Item1 as DataSourceReference = New DataSourceReference Item1.Reference = strRef DataSources(0).Item = Item1 Console.WriteLine( "Setting report {0}, data source to {1}", strTargetReport, strRef) RS.SetItemDataSources( strTargetReport, DataSources) strDSName is "OLTP", strRef is the path to the shared data source, "/Reports/Tester1/Data Sources/OLTP". strTargetReport is the name of the report itself, full path name to "/Reports/Tester1/Report1". Each tester has their own folder off the main reports folder "Reports", with an incremental number, as in "Tester1". Each testers folder has it's own Data Sources folder. There is only one data source for all reports, "OLTP". /Reports /Reports/Tester1 /Reports/Tester1/Data Sources /Reports/Tester1/Data Sources/OLTP /Reports/Tester1/Report1 /Reports/Tester1/Report2 I even went into SQL Server Management Studio and tried changing the (now broken) data source setting for a report to point to the correct data source (OLTP), then copied the generated script, then ran it - and still got the data source cannot be found error. That's what my latest code shown above was based on. Anyone got any clues? Thanks, --Stan

SQL Reporting Services - File Access Permissions Problem forums.asp.net

I have been trying to use a custom XML data extension for SQL Reporting Services. The extension works fine when in the Visual Studio IDE, taking the "Connection String" (which is basically a directory path to the XML document used for the report) as both file system path and UNC path. However, when I build and deploy the reports I am unable to "see" the XML files. Both throughthe Reports Manager interface and through an IFrame in my app I get the error that the "path doesn't exist" (canned error from extension thrown because it can't access the UNC or file path). Apparently the permissions are not set correctly to allow the application to access the share that holds the XML file. I have tried allowing read and full access via sharing and NTFS for each of the following users to no avail: Everyone MyMachineASPNET Guest Account Internet Guest Account SYSTEM I've searched high and low for an answer - it seems that the main issue is that the aspnet worker process doesn't have access to the UNC share through the Report Server web service. I have tried using impersonation (using <identity impersonate="true" userName="MyDomainMe" password="pass"/> in the web.config file for the Report Server app), but I get the same result. Do you have any idea how to solve this issue? Any insight or hunches would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Eric

The Setup Has Encountered An Unexpected Error While Setting Reporting Service And Share Point Exclusion... social.msdn.microsoft.com

I got this error message during SQL Server Express install with no error code on Server 2003 SP1. I'm installing on an older development machine and although I do have a very large log file somewhere I wanted to post before I even dug into it.I noticedin IIS under my Webs that the MSSQLExpress webs were there at first but when I clicked on them to get any info or Properties... they dissapeared. So they were almost installed but they no longer exist. Also I do not have a SQL Service Manager icon down near the clock. I almost took a step to fix this. After reading a few posts about similar problems I thought maybe this happened because the Default Web Sites IP # was not set to (All Unassigned). I was going to try a repair install from Add/Remove Programs but the temporary setup files are already gone. I really dont want to uninstall all 5 SQL components from Add/Remove Programs and start from scratch. As good security practice we usually remove the Default Web or as in this development servers case we changed the IP from (All Unassigned) to an IP that is only accessible from certain machines on the internal network. I obviously should have read more pre setup guides. Anyway how can I fix this without reinstalling everything?

Execution '' Cannot Be Found (rsExecutionNotFound) social.msdn.microsoft.com

We are intermittently seeing this error when viewing a report through the report viewer control. Our setup is three load-balanced web servers all pointing to a single server that runs Reporting Services (front-end and DB). Do any special steps need to be taken to make RS compatible with a web farm? RS itself is not scaled out, just the calling web servers. Those web servers are set up to share session in a separate SQL Server. Previous threads on this error seem to involve session timeout, but that doesn't appear to be the case here since we sometimes see the error on the very first request of the report. Refreshing the page will sometimes show the report and sometimes not. Any suggestions?

File.OpenRead() Accesses File On Share Within Workgroup But Not A Remote Share? stackoverflow.com

I have an ASP.NET MVC application that attempts to read a file in using a filestream and File.OpenRead(). When the path to the file is a share on the same workgroup, and I give access to NETWORK SERVICE for the share, this works perfectly as desired. However, when the path to the share is a UNC path to a remote share within the LAN, with read permissions open for "Everyone", the "File.OpenRead()" method throws an exception saying "Could not find a part of the path". In my test cases I'm debugging locally with the ASP.NET MVC app being given a UNC path to the computer that it's actually running on. It's a share on my C drive, being "Shared" with permissions to "Everyone" for read access. Is there something in IIS that needs to be configured? If I try to impersonate, in this context, the impersonation doesn't matter because NETWORK SERVICE was the user trying to access the files when it worked for a share in the same workgroup.

Report Server Throws ERROR [HY024] With Access Database social.msdn.microsoft.com

I've set up a report server on IIS on my local machine using SSRS 2005. All is well in the world--it shows up, and I can publish reports and have them display successfully. However, I'm trying to publish a couple of reports based on an Access database--and this is where the problem lies. The reports run perfectly in Visual Studio, which is on the same machine as the report server. Thus, I can deduce that the ODBC connection to the Access database is set up properly. There are no errors on the report, which means that the reports are set up correctly. I've spent the last day researching the problem, but nothing I've tried thus far (from putting the Access database in a shared folder to changing security on the file and report server to rebuilding the reports from scratch) works. The exact error is given below, with the data source name changed: An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot create a connection to data source 'MyODBCDataSource. ERROR [HY024] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. ERROR [IM006] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed ERROR [HY024] [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides. Can anyone suggest something I missed? I'm stumped on this one. Edit: Just to clarify, EVERYTHING is on my local machine--the web browser I'm viewing from, IIS, SSRS 2005, the Access database, the ODBC connection (in the System DSN), everything.

Remote Connection To Analysis Service Giving Problem. social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi, I am stuck up with one of the deployment scenario. I have web application through which we can invoke reports. Reports are developed in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service. The reporting service project sets data source connection with Analysis Services database. If we have all this on the same machine, we are able to integrate and see the results end to end. However we are stuck up withthe following deployment scenario. Say our web application is on A machine SQL Server 2005 database on B machine SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services on C machine SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on D machine. so analysis services C machine pointing to database on B machine. and reporting services D machine pointing to analysis services C machine. Soin Reporting Service project when we set the data source connection to a remote Analysis services machine (C) it gives us the following error that "A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running." Is this a known issue? I searched on google and this forum but dint get much help.I did check that for analysis service remote connection is enabled. What exact steps do I have to follow? First of all is this scenario ok that analysis services and reporting services on different machine? This isvery urgent for our project. Please help me find the solution. Thanks in advance! Ann.

Crystal Report Dynamic Database Path www.xtremevbtalk.com

HalloIM using Crystal Reports 9(with an MS Access DB) with Visual Basic 6. I designed my report using the Embeded Crystal Designer inside VB6. I created my connection to the database using the Database Wizard. My problem now is: By using this method of selecting the path to the database, that path is included inside my application, so if the user doesnt install my Application in that Exact path as to which the Report's database is pointing to, then the database wont be found. Is their anyway to tell Crystal Reports to use the Database within my App.Path folder? My development folder is: c:DevelopmentMyAppDatabase.mdb, so inside the Database wizard in CR, the database points to that path, but i need it to point to the path to where the user installed the app? Please help... thanks

SQL Reporting :: Dynamic Data Source For The Reports That Are Deployed Inside The Report Server? forums.asp.net

We used reporting services to design our reports and deployed them in the report server. We used a shared data source for those reports. Then we used the ReportViewer control to display those reports on our asp.net website. So we didn't placed the reports inside our website ,we deployed them in the Reporting services and we passed the report name and ReportServer path to the ReportViewer control to display each report. The problem is that we have staging and production data base, and we need to be able to dynamically change the reports to use one of these databases. We can't find how we can pass a dynamic data source/connection string to the reports that are being deployed inside the report server.I can use dynamic data source if i placed the reports in my asp.net website, but i have to keep them inside the report server(for many reasons).

An Unexpected Error Occurred While Connecting To The Report Server. social.msdn.microsoft.com

I have a distributed environment with SQL Server 2005 SP2 (RTM) running on one server. This server holds the databases for SharePoint and Reporting Services. I then have SharePoint 3.0 (32-bit version) with the reporting services add-in installed on a second server. I installed the sharepoint object model (64-bit version)on the database server as suggested and have configured Reporting Services to use domain user accounts. The Reporting Services configuration tool is reporting that integration has been successfully set up but I am unable to access the "Set Server Defaults" page without an error. This is the error I receive: An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. Please help.
